Make a Difference. Volunteer.
Volunteering with Grand Lake Fire Protection District is a rewarding opportunity to protect and serve your community. Our volunteers are an essential part of the Grand Lake Fire family, so whether you are a veteran firefighter, new to the field, or wanting to assist with events or grants, we will work with you to get the valuable training suited to the position you desire.
Types of Volunteers
We have 3 levels of volunteer participation: Combat Qualified Member, Logistical Support Member, and Community Volunteer. We also have a robust resident program for new firefighters interested in gaining the experience and training for careers in the firefighting industry. Levels of volunteer participation are based on time commitment, physical ability, and ability to complete required trainings. This is a fun way to become a member of a team and gain training and experience while supporting your community.
Community Volunteer
Do you love your fire department but don’t want to drive the trucks or run into burning buildings? Community Volunteers are members who would like to help out and provide support without becoming firefighters. We have a wide variety of support functions that need to be filled in an emergency situation. Community Volunteers serve a vital role in supporting operations and administration during community events and critical calls. Your expertise and talents can be used to support the overall ability of the Fire Department to function during a critical incident.
Benefits of Volunteering
Grand Lake Fire cares for the wellbeing and futures of our volunteers. We have invested in a number of benefits and incentives for these valuable members. Grand Lake Fire offers a substantial FPPA volunteer pension for Combat Qualified and Logistical Support Volunteers. Volunteers are included in the department’s Provident 24-hour Death and Dismemberment and Blanket Accident Insurance Policies as well as the First Responder Assistance Program. We provide the training on 5 disciplines, wildland deployment opportunities, and outfitting of PPE. Volunteers participating in the resident program also receive meal gift cards and first priority for paid backfill during wildland season.
The Resident Volunteer Firefighter Program
provides an opportunity for fire service training and incident response experience to qualified individuals that are seeking a career in the firefighting field and are willing to serve as a volunteer firefighter for the Grand Lake Fire Protection District. The Resident Volunteer Firefighter will be provided no-cost living facilities in exchange for providing staffing of the fire station and apparatus while serving as a volunteer firefighter for the Fire District. This program provides real life experience in a fire house setting responding to incidents, performing shift assignments and interacting with other crew members. Residents have comfortable living quarters at no cost to include full kitchen and bathroom, day room, physical training equipment, training room facility with internet access and more. The fire department will provide all personal protective equipment and uniform. GLFPD is not currently accepting application for this program.
